When running, Cairns carries a portable litter-picker in her backpack, and picks up rubbish on her cool-down walk. She keeps a litter-picker in the boot of her car, and will frequently pull over on the way back from work to clean something up.

Cairns estimates she has spent around 12 hours a month for the past three years litter-picking.
